Fly High Business Spotlight Article

Fly High is a student led, 501(c)(3) certified nonprofit organization aiming to bridge the gap between the underprivileged and privileged and tackle health inequity issues around the world through the use of innovative technology and STEM driven resources that was founded in June 2020. They host workshops to educate everyone on topics that are useful in the real world that are not taught, or not taught enough, in school. They also partner with other organizations serving the underprivileged to offer their free activities and they foster a community of members on their Discord. Additionally, they are aiming to produce an app to help solve people’s healthcare concerns and connect people together.


The founder and CEO of Fly High is Jalen Patel, a junior in high school who is passionate about computer science and entrepreneurship.


He was inspired to found Fly High because he wanted to utilize his passions to create something new and unique in the world.


Seeing as not many other organizations have the same mission and goals as Fly High, I think he’s done an amazing job at creating such a different and unique organization. Because Jalen believes that what an organization does is more important than just a name or a logo, there was not really a concrete reason as to why he decided to call the organization ‘Fly High.’ However, as the organization started to grow and more people joined the executive team, he realized that the name ‘Fly High’ symbolizes how students will have the opportunity to fly higher and gain leadership experience at a young age.


Jalen is very proud of how he was able to try many new things and experience many different leadership opportunities all while still being in high school. He has experienced many different environments, learned many new skills, and has gained many different experiences and he hopes to share these opportunities with fellow students around the world.


As of now, Fly High has reached people in 12 countries and 24 states, and he is very excited for Fly High to grow and to reach more people in different states and countries.


He also hopes that Fly High will be able to reach more underrepresented and underprivileged people to attend their free educational events.


Running an organization such as Fly High requires a lot of time, and it can be pretty

difficult to keep track of everything going on. Jalen says that he doesn’t really have a set way to manage everything he needs to get done, but he does utilize the Calendar, Reminders, and Notes apps on his phone. While being in charge of an organization can be stressful at times, especially at such a young age, he does love being the CEO of Fly High. He says that he enjoys helping the team and encourages them regularly. The Fly High team currently consists of 30 students worldwide. There are five departments you can join which include Outreach, Marketing/Awareness, Development, Internal, and Events and Logistics. One of the upcoming events presented by Fly High is called the Technology X Health, or simply the TechXHealth, Conference. It is a 4 day, completely free, virtual conference that offers many opportunities. There are essentially 4 parts to the conference: learn, network, focus, and become. You will be able to learn about how healthcare is impacting the world and about the importance of diversity and inclusion through various workshops. So many different speakers from so many different backgrounds will speak about their respective fields and you will be able to learn about different career paths and opportunities. You will also be able to network with the speakers, who are professionals in the fields of Health IT, Biotechnology, Mental Health, Pharmaceuticals, and AI for Healthcare. The speakers will leave their contact information and you will be able reach out to them about any questions or if you would like to receive mentorship or advice from them. There will also be networking sessions in which you will be able to network with students all over the world. Since the theme of the TechXHealth Conference is the intersection of technology and healthcare, attendees will be able to focus on how the intersection of technology and medicine is changing the world. By attending this conference, you will become a part of the next generation of changemakers.

It is going to be a really fun conference and Fly High is so excited to be hosting it. The conference will last from September 7 - 10 and will be from 4:30 - 6:30 PM PST. In addition to hosting workshops and events, Fly High has a Discord which is a community of general members from all around the world. Various opportunities as well as Fly High’s events and activities are promoted in this Discord. The Discord can also serve as a way for attendees of the TechXHealth Conference to network with each other outside of the 4 day conference.
